Optical Fiber Fabrication Engineer

Job Description and Responsibilities

• Will be a key member of Coherent’s advanced fiber fabrication group with primary responsibility for MCVD and fiber draw processes for preform and fiber manufacture. • Will be the owner of various fiber manufacturing projects, including all aspects of the product life cycle from establishing customer driven specifications to final delivery of the product. • Work cross functionally (sales, engineering, service and quality organizations) to identify and document product requirements and design specifications. • Must have a solid knowledge of fiber design, fiber testing procedures and waveguide theory, although hands on fiber testing is not a requirement. • Familiarity with fiber quality testing procedures and theory including fiber strength and H2 aging. • Familiarity with rare earth doping processes and rare earth doped fiber technology is a plus but not required. • Must be able to work with many groups and individuals as this position will involve significant interaction with variety of team members.

• Education and Work Experience • M.S. degree (Ph.D. desired) in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or other related engineering disciplines. • 5+ years hands-on experience in the field of fiber fabrication. • Proven track record of successful transfer of products from design to manufacturing. • Experience and knowledge of dual-clad fiber for amplifiers and high power fiber lasers • Computer skills – MS Office, statistical software, FiberCad or other mode solver program. • Ability to develop test plans for product and component characterization and product reliability test If you are interested please send your resume to meshel.babish@coherent.com
